Project Overview

Advanced Glass was appointed to deliver the façade package for Croft Medical Centre in Worthing, a healthcare facility requiring a coordinated approach across glazing, cladding, and entrance systems. Working alongside Amiri Construction, the scope included Technal FZ75 windows, Tental 50TT curtain walling, STII commercial doors, automatic sliding entrance doors with integrated safety systems, DUCO F30Z louvres, and Equitone rainscreen cladding.

The project required a balanced approach between performance, accessibility, and aesthetics, ensuring the façade aligned with both the architectural intent and the operational requirements of a modern medical environment.

Design and Technical Challenges

A key challenge on the project was the interface between the glazing systems and the Equitone rainscreen cladding. Achieving a fully coordinated and weather-tight solution required careful detailing, particularly where façade elements intersected within the cavity.

Additional complexity arose from the positioning of the windows, which required the introduction of shelf angles to provide adequate structural support. At the same time, the design needed to satisfy a range of regulatory requirements, including Part M compliance for accessible entrances, Part K for full height glazing subject to barrier loads, and Part O for solar control across key elevations.

These challenges were addressed through consistent communication between design and site teams, ensuring that all elements were fully coordinated prior to installation.

Installation and Programme

The project was delivered within a constrained and accelerated programme following disruption caused by the original main contractor entering administration. Despite this, Advanced Glass maintained progress through efficient planning and close coordination with the replacement contractor.

Installation was carried out using MEWPs, primarily scissor lifts, with a focus on safe working at height. A team of four operatives managed the façade installation, ensuring works progressed in line with programme requirements while maintaining quality and safety standards throughout.

Performance and Compliance

The façade was designed to meet specific thermal and regulatory targets, including U-values of 1.4 W/m²K for windows and 1.8 W/m²K for doors. Ground level glazing and doors were required to achieve PAS 24 security standards, ensuring robustness and safety for a public-facing healthcare facility.

Solar control glazing was incorporated across east, south, and west elevations to manage overheating risks, while full height glazing elements were designed to meet the required 1.5 kN line load in accordance with Part K.

Outcome

The completed façade met all performance and compliance requirements, delivering a high-quality finish that aligned with the project’s design intent. Despite initial programme challenges, the works were successfully delivered through proactive coordination and problem-solving on both the design and installation sides.

Feedback from the client and project team was overwhelmingly positive, with particular recognition given to the collaborative approach taken throughout the project. This has led to further opportunities to work together on future schemes.
