Advanced Glass delivered curtain walling, aluminium windows, and louvre systems at MBDA Stevenage for 8Build, supporting a high-security commercial development.
Despite evolving project requirements and programme extensions, the team maintained delivery through proactive communication, technical coordination, and adaptable design support.
Advanced Glass was appointed by 8Build to deliver the façade package for the MBDA Stevenage development, a commercial scheme requiring high-performance glazing systems within a secure operational environment.
The package included Technal Tental 50 T/T thermally broken zone drained curtain walling, Technal Tental Next 75 windows, and aluminium louvres. The project required a coordinated approach across design, engineering, and installation to ensure the façade achieved the required levels of performance, security, and durability while adapting to evolving project demands.
A significant challenge throughout the project was the continuous evolution of project information and requirements during both the design and installation stages. This resulted in multiple drawing revisions and a prolonged programme, requiring the façade design to remain flexible while maintaining compliance and buildability.
Additional technical coordination was required around the window support loads, which needed to be calculated and verified by Advanced Glass’ structural engineer to ensure the façade could be safely supported within the building structure.
These challenges were managed through regular communication with the client and project team, alongside the development of suitable technical solutions that aligned with the changing project requirements.
The project was delivered on a constrained, high-security site in Stevenage, requiring careful planning and coordination throughout the installation process. Access restrictions and security procedures added complexity to deliveries and day-to-day operations on site.
A team of three operatives carried out the installation works, utilising MEWPs and IPAF-certified access methods to safely complete façade installation at height. Weekly on-site coordination meetings ensured that installation activities remained aligned with the wider project programme despite ongoing changes and delays.
The façade systems were designed to achieve a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K, supporting the thermal performance requirements of the commercial development.
Enhanced security requirements applied across all positions on the project, reflecting the nature of the facility and the operational requirements of the client. The façade systems were therefore selected and coordinated to provide both performance and increased security throughout the building envelope.
Despite the challenges associated with programme changes and evolving design information, the project was delivered successfully and met all required performance standards.
Feedback from the client and project team was positive, particularly regarding the support and collaboration provided throughout the project lifecycle. The scheme demonstrates the importance of adaptability, technical coordination, and communication when delivering façade packages within complex commercial and high-security environments.
