Frameless Glass Balustrades
Advanced Glass: Frameless Glass Balustrades Elegant, engineered safety solutions
Why Choose Frameless Glass Balustrading?
Frameless glass balustrades offer the ultimate combination of uninterrupted views and engineered safety. Ideal for balconies, terraces, staircases, and atria, our systems are tested, certified, and designed for long-term performance in both residential and commercial environments.
These systems offer minimalist design, high-strength laminated safety glass, and compliance with UK building regulations. They are suitable for both interior and exterior applications, making them highly versatile. All systems are tested to meet or exceed load requirements per BS 6180 and BS EN 1991-1-1, including:
– 0.36 kN/m – Residential stairs and internal applications
– 0.74 kN/m – Residential balconies
– 1.5 kN/m – Public and commercial spaces
– 3.0 kN/m – Stadium and crowd-loaded areas

Mounting Options
Frameless glass balustrade systems can be installed using two main fixing methods: top-mounted and side-mounted, each suited to different architectural and structural requirements.
Top-mounted (base-fixed) systems are anchored directly into the horizontal surface of the balcony slab, stair tread, or terrace structure. This approach is often preferred for new builds or when the substrate allows for concealed fixings. The channels can be surface-mounted or recessed into the floor buildup to achieve a flush finish, providing a clean look while maintaining load-bearing integrity. Top-mounting is typically easier to install, making it a cost-effective choice in many applications.
Side-mounted (face-fixed) systems are fixed to the vertical face of a slab or beam, freeing up valuable floor space and maintaining a seamless surface above. This is particularly beneficial in projects where floor area is at a premium or where external drainage and floor build-up need to be preserved. Face-fixed balustrades offer a refined architectural detail, often chosen for cantilevered balconies, roof terraces, or applications with slim edge projections. Installation must consider structural reinforcement and edge detailing to accommodate the concentrated load paths.
Both mounting methods can be specified with appropriate drainage considerations, thermal breaks, and interface detailing to suit waterproofing strategies and adjacent finishes.

Frequently Asked Questions
A frameless glass balustrade is a minimalist railing system made from toughened or laminated glass, providing unobstructed views without visible posts or handrails.
They offer a modern, sleek appearance, maximise natural light, provide uninterrupted views, and are durable, weather-resistant, and easy to maintain.
Typically, toughened or laminated safety glass, ranging from 12mm to 21.5mm thick, depending on structural requirements.
Yes, they are designed to meet UK building regulations and can be tested to BS 6180 standards for strength and impact resistance. Laminated glass options ensure safety even if the glass breaks.
Not always. If the glass is laminated and meets the necessary structural load requirements, a handrail may not be needed. However, regulations may require one in certain applications.
They are ideal for balconies, terraces, staircases, pool surrounds, and mezzanine levels, both indoors and outdoors.
Installation methods include base channels, glass clamps, spigots, or stand-off fixings, depending on the design and load requirements.
Yes, they are designed to withstand wind loads, moisture, and temperature changes, making them suitable for coastal and exposed locations.
Yes, options include clear, tinted, frosted, or low-iron glass, different fixing systems, and stainless steel or aluminium handrails (if required).
They require minimal maintenance—regular cleaning with glass cleaner and occasional checks of fixings and seals ensure long-lasting performance.
