Curtain Walling, Windows, And Commercial Doors For Magna Park, Corby Industrial Units

Corby, Northamptonshire, UK

Project Details

Reading a company’s case study page can sometimes give readers a skewed impression of a typical project. Many blogs feature challenging or problematic projects that showcase specific areas of technical expertise or how the business overcame project hurdles in order to achieve ultimate success. We’ve got some case studies of this nature too, but we also felt it was important to introduce very successful projects that happened without any difficulties.

A recent example was the work we delivered for construction contractor Volker Fitzpatrick on two industrial units at Magna Park, Corby, Northamptonshire (plots two and three)

About The Customer And Project

Volcker Fitzpatrick is one of the UK’s leading engineering and construction contractors, specialising in state-of-the-art new industrial and commercial developments. This project involved supplying Technal FZ Windows, Tental 50TT Curtain Walling and Technal STII commercial doors, as well as a Boon Edam Circle Sliding entrance doorway, for a new distribution warehouse and a manufacturing centre. The location was GLP Magna Park in Corby, one of the country’s largest logistics and distribution parks.

Images of the two buildings during and after construction can be found on the Volker Fitzpatrick website, here.

As you can see, the buildings were large, equating to over 660,000 ft² and 591,000 ft² respectively, and had varied glazing needs.

The Challenge

The units included a variety of working spaces, including high-end offices, transport hubs, 64 dock levers and doors, eight-level access doors, and an internal service yard with space for 111 lorries! There were a variety of contractors and tradespeople working on the project, which had a strong focus on innovation, sustainable building practices, and community benefit, as well as cutting-edge design. Our overall goal was to deliver the glazing on the project on time and within budget.

Outcomes

As far as industrial projects go, this one was fairly straightforward, and both the client and ourselves were really happy about how smoothly the process went. By slightly amending the design of the windows and making them in larger runs of coupled windows rather than many smaller windows, we were able to accelerate the project by increasing the rate of installation.

The contract manager at Volker Fitzpatrick said: “Advanced Glass’s work on this scheme has been outstanding and we look forward to working together again in the future!”

The project was a great success for Volker Fitzpatrick, and our team was highly commended for their speedy delivery. By accelerating the installation, we enabled the internal works to begin earlier, leading to earlier overall project completion.
