Walnut Tree Close

South West London – Completed 2021

Project Details

In October 2020, Advanced Glass began a collaboration with Bowmer & kirkland on a large residential – student accommodation project. The project included 4 Blocks of residential student accommodation in Walnut Tree Close, Guildford.

There have been various road and rail traffic noise considerations on Walnut Tree Close due to the close proximity of two railways and the A3.

Taking into consideration the location and specification of the project, the decision was made to use specialist glass facades. The glass used was toughened, heat strengthened and acoustic laminated solar control glass provided by Holloseal.

Safety and excellent ventilation is always an issue with student accommodation so open-in windows were fitted with external fixed blade aluminium louvres supplied by Technal.

This allows students to open the windows while maintaining security against intruders as well as guaranteed personal safety when opening the windows above the ground floor.

“The design is a combination of toughened, heat soak tested 70/35 solar control glass externally and an acoustic laminated inner pane,
FY65 side hung automatic opening windows, STII Doors, and Technal MX52 Curtain walling,”
Paul Kimberley, Commercial Manager at Advanced Glass.

“The aluminium fixed blade louvres fixed to outside of opening windows completed the overall objective of the building, to create a safe space for students with reduced noise, excellent ventilation and of course a great living space to improve everyday life.”

Work on this project will conclude in April 2021.
